I’ve contributed as a hands-on editor and science writer for…

Providence Neuroscience Institute (PNI)

Technical Writer (2021 to present)

At PNI, I shape complex research into clear, accurate, and accessible content. I partner with clinicians and researchers to develop manuscripts, proposals, and public‑facing materials that meet the highest international standards for scientific reporting. My work combines editorial expertise with visual communication to maximize clarity and accessibility. I use design tools like Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign to create data visualizations, newsletters, and reports that support scientific rigor and readability.

A major focus of my role is improving our publication output. Since 2022, I’ve helped increase manuscript submissions year over year while doubling annual acceptances at peer-reviewed journals. This growth reflects stronger editorial processes that I developed and deeper collaboration with clinicians and researchers. I also guided the development of the Institute’s first NIH R21 proposal.

I led a small team of clinical experts to publish the National African Americans with Multiple Sclerosis Registry’s patient newsletter between 2021 and 2025. This newsletter translated emerging MS care practice into meaningful, empowering content for a nationwide audience. Across all projects, I manage multiple deadlines in parallel while cultivating relationships that produce new publication and funding opportunities.

Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU)

Senior Research Assistant—Science Writer (2017 to 2021)

At the OHSU Department of Cell, Developmental and Cancer Biology, I supported researchers secure funding and communicate complex science with clarity. I led small teams through the full lifecycle of grant and manuscript development. I structured content development, guided writing and editing, coordinated between team members, and coached scientists as they prepared for presentations and competitive project pitches.

A major focus of my work was strengthening the department’s grant success. In 2019 alone, I played a central role in developing and submitting 14 national proposals with a 36% success rate, helping secure $3.3 million in direct funding and nearly $1 million in indirect support.

In addition to research development work, I co‑directed a graduate-level proposal‑writing course for the OHSU School of Medicine. In this role, I developed lectures and led workshops that helped early‑career scientists build stronger communication and grant‑writing skills.

Queer Meets Queer Podcast

Executive Producer (2020 to 2021)

As Executive Producer of Queer Meets Queer, I applied my communication skills to a new medium. I led a 4-person creative team in crafting a 15-episode storytelling podcast through the full production process, from recruiting storytellers to publishing episodes and engaging with our audience. I approached each episode the same way I approach scientific communication: hands-on, strategic, and deeply collaborative. I worked closely with storytellers to ensure that their stories were treated with respect and were crafted with clarity and intention.

To fund the project, I secured more than $10,000 in competitive arts funding through strategic grant writing. This funding enabled us to keep production going during the COVID-19 pandemic and allowed for us to compensate storytellers for their time and vulnerability. Our work gained national visibility when one episode was featured in both the digital and print editions of POZ magazine.

This work reflects my core belief that storytelling, whether scientific or personal, is a powerful tool for engaging with people’s imaginations and changing minds.

Smith + Crown

Research Associate (2016 to 2017)

At Smith + Crown, I served as the project manager and editor for a weekly digital research publication focused on emerging financial technologies. I set publishing priorities, coordinated a team of part‑time writers, and ensured that high‑quality analysis went out on a consistent weekly schedule. My work involved guiding content from concept to publication — assigning stories, shaping drafts, editing for clarity and accuracy, and overseeing final production in WordPress.

I collaborated closely with subject‑matter experts across the fintech ecosystem, interviewing industry leaders, scientists, developers, and Fortune 500 executives to translate complex technical developments into accessible, credible research. I also designed visuals to help readers make sense of rapidly evolving trends.

Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies

Graduate Studies Lecturer (2015 to 2016)

As a Graduate Studies Lecturer for the Johns Hopkins SAIS Hopkins‑Nanjing Center, I independently designed and taught a three‑part academic writing workshop for a cohort of 35 master’s students. I also provided one‑on‑one tutoring and personalized feedback on their research papers, helping students strengthen clarity, structure, and analytical writing skills.

The Linden Center

Marketing Intern (2014 to 2015)

As a marketing intern at the Linden Centre in Dali, China, I helped plan and execute a large public event that drew hundreds of participants and was covered by local TV. Our team delivered the event on time and under budget, making it profitable for the first time. I also wrote and designed a ten‑page marketing booklet using Photoshop and Illustrator.

My Story

I grew up in Colorado and studied Economics and English Literature, a combination that taught me to see stories data and narrative as complementary parts of a holistic communication strategy. My time living and working in mainland China gave me a global lens on communication, and how culture shapes the exchange of ideas. These experiences continue to shape how I connect with experts and audiences to craft meaningful, purpose-driven content.

Why I write

I love working with smart people who care about what they do. Also, I believe deeply in the mission of science communication--to make insights from research accessible to people who need it. A lot of science writing is much more difficult to read than it has to be. This significantly impedes scientific progress. When scientific information is accessible, it travels farther, sparks change, and makes a difference.

What I bring

For the last decade, I’ve used my writing and analytic skills to make complex communication projects feel clear and manageable. I’m known for giving feedback that’s supportive without losing precision. Teams rely on me for guidance that’s both kind and direct, and for my steady, practical technical writing skills that help ideas take shape and keeps projects moving forward.
